so let's take a look at gate three which
is all about belonging remember in this
gate we want to get all the lovers to
extremely likely and we want people to
feel like they can lean in and bring
their aame every
day and when we think about an image we
want to look into a place where it looks
like cool things are happening where we
want to be part of it and that we feel
like we would have a sense of belonging
with the group so those are kind of our
images we know what it's not people
don't feel excluded or left
out and remember belonging is the goal
it's the feeling of being part of
something and mattering to others and
how we get there is by inclusion which
are intentional acts designed to help
people feel part of something so there
are three strategies you can use as a
team member for gate
three first you want to recognize people
for their value and contributions
everybody is unique and brings something
to the team so getting to know what they
all contribute and and how you value
them is a really important part of this
process some people will bring their
strengths certain skill sets that they
have but others might just bring a
positive attitude or they're really
consistent and you can depend on them or
it's their ability to work through a
challenge it's different for each person
but you want to take a look at that
interestingly this is not about liking
each other it's about valuing each other
and in fact when people feel their
valued and needed by a group The Brain
produces serotonin and can shift from
that reptilian survival brain we talked
about about to the neocortex that higher
level brain that's where the seat of
innovation and creativity
is so find ways to regularly communicate
with others about what you value in them
and what they contribute to the group
you can do things like call out Kudos in
meetings or send emails there's even
apps or Services where you can give each
other compliments all of that works but
it's better if you're more specific so
saying hey you're awesome is good but
you're awesome because is even better
here's some examples I really
appreciated that you dot dot dot I'm so
grateful that we can count on you for
dot dot dot and thanks for going above
and beyond when you dot dot dot so when
you add that level of specificity it
really makes a difference now the second
strategy you have in gate three is to
have the courage to take some risks risk
taking is not always easy remember our
biology is skewed to self- protection
but it's important to push yourself to
take new risks think of it as
experimentation or ways to stretch
yourself both as an individual and as a
team you can think of the teamwork as
ways to try new things and give
yourselves permission to make mistakes
and give things a go because that's how
we learn that's how we get better that's
actually where real Innovation comes
from let yourself get a little messy
this is what I love about a color run I
think it just adds a lot of fun and
people give themselves permission to get
a little messy but that's how you get
better at
anything I also really like the pilot
project because it gives you safe ground
to run on and it'll allow you to learn
which Corners you can cut and which
processes you can tighten as you do your
work together and afterwards you want to
do a little reflection what worked what
didn't what should we change how can we
make that better and after you reflect a
little bit on your own you want to
reflect with your teammates and talk
about Lessons Learned and how you can
even improve a little bit more it's
another great way to connect with your team
